Riedel Presents the MILLENNIUM GLASS 2000
Riedel Crystal has introduced its 2000 Millennium Champagne flute, the third in a series of six limited-edition crystal flutes designed to celebrate and commemorate the Millennium.
The elliptical stem on the 2000 glass forms a zero, in essence creating a double stem, and the year 2000 is etched four times, in a circle, under the glass's foot. The Millennium 2000 is nine-and-a-half inches high, holds 6 ounces and has a Vinum Champagne flute bowl, all blown in crystal.
Because both the 0 double-stem and 2000 are prominent elements of the glass, it is expected that in addition to Millennium celebrations the glass will be purchased as the perfect gift for dated celebrations such as birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, and bar-mitzvahs. 99 Millennium glass is 85/8 inches high, holds 106/8 ounces, and Each Millennium 2000 comes packed in its own silver-coated elegant gift box.
An entirely new and different Millennium glass, will be introduced in each of the next three years, in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and then will be permanently discontinued. All will be of fine machine-blown lead crystal but each will be of a different size, design and expression, and each will carry its own vintage year as a prominent element, as well as being packed in its own gift box. To achieve their special and unique ornamentation, individual high-tech steel molds are being created for the bowls and stems of each year's glass. The different bowls have been designed to maximize the pleasures of Champagne. Because each mold will be destroyed on March 31 of the year following its production, it is possible that the Millennium glasses will become collectors' items. In fact, the first two Riedel Millennium glasses sold out within months of introduction
According to Georg Riedel: "All mankind will focus on its past and on its future as our generation bears witness to the emotional year beginning with the final hours of the 20th century when it ends on December 31, 1999 and the launching of the third Millennium on January 1, 2001. If ever there were a special time to celebrate, it will be this time between our past and our future. Riedel's Jahrtausendglasses were designed to celebrate these moments."
