“Colli Bolognesi” is one of the most ideal areas for the cultivation of wine grapes in Emilia region. This is not only due to the soil type or sun exposure but also to the nature of its native people who have developed, over the centuries, a cultivation that has preserved a strong tradition and gained several appraisers since Roman Times (Plinio il vecchio in his “Naturalis Historia”, A.Bacci in his “De Naturali Vinorum Historia”, Calindri, Camerlengo Cardinal Rezzonico, etc.). “Bonfiglio” lies on the lands that Ranuzzi de’ Bianchi Counts turned into an area for the production of quality wine in the 19th century. Mr. Pio Vannozzi, heir to this tradition and among the founders of Colli Bolognesi D.O.C. Wines Consortium, shares one great ambition with his partners Baraldi, Manzini and Trisciuzzi: to turn “Bonfiglio” into a Company where the respect for tradition and genuineness is combined more and more with experimentation, the new technologies and the will to stand comparison with the best. The low yield per hectare, the hand-made harvest and the natural systems to prevent the vine diseases account for the quality of the grapes cultivated by the Vannozzi and Baraldi families in the area between Monteveglio and Oliveto hills. In recent years considerable investments have been made in the cellar to improve the wine-making techniques, without affecting the genuineness of the product as well as to allow Mr. Arturo Vannozzi, who can rely on the advice of Mr. Mauro Rasera -one of the more qualified Italian winemakers-, to make the most of the great qualities of Colli Bolognesi grapes.
